Installation Problems
=====================

If when the installation program executes the configuration program the
machine hangs or crashes there are two main causes; a software clash or an
interrupt conflict.  The software clash can be avoided by doing a 'clean'
boot, ie booting the machine with a system disk which doesn't load any special
device drivers (except perhaps a mouse driver).  At this point in the
installation the program has successfully been installed onto the hard drive
but the configuration has not been set, so you will need to manually run
config.exe to set this (note you can do this anytime you wish to change the
default settings).  The other main reason, an interrupt conflict, is a lot
more difficult to isolate and fix, the usual reason is two expansion cards
generating the same interrupt level, which causes an 'unexpected interrupt.'
In our experience, altho' a machine can seem to be working correctly in normal
use, it can still be suffering from such a conflict, but the interrupt
handling software is masking the effects by retrying when a clash occurs.
Unfortunately we are unable to do this because we cannot account for all
possible interrupt sources.  One way of identifying if this is the case is to
remove expansion cards until the problem 'goes away.'




Requirements for machines with 2 megabytes of memory
====================================================

A machine with only 2 megabytes of memory cannot have any sound effects or
music enabled, and must have 576000 bytes (or more) at the dos prompt and at
least 1000k of extended or expanded memory.  You will also need at least 4
megabytes of diskspace.  If your machine has got 2 meg of memory but you
cannot seem to get 1000k free, it might be because you have shadow ram enabled
in your bios settings (see your owners manual for this situation).  The game
does NOT need any memory managing software such as HIMEM.SYS or EMM386.EXE
altho' if you have enough base memory it will operate with them.
